Databases and Datasets

  • MetaLib (York users only)
    A gateway to bibliographic databases, statistical datasets, electronic journals and other Web resources available to members of the University. Includes guides and links to help. Also allows cross-searching of resources, and Alerts. Login with your University username and password to access all of these features.
  • Philosopher's Index via ARC2 WebSPIRS
    The main bibliographic database for philosophy, indexing books, book chapters and journals, giving bibliographical references and abstracts.
  • Past Masters text databases
    Collection of electronic texts in philosophy, covering the history of political thought and theory, education, religious studies, economics, classics, history and philosophy of science, Germanic studies and sociology.
  • Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
    A dynamic (continually updated) reference work with an archive of fixed editions. Still under development

  • Boxmind - academic resource directory created by subject specialists, based in Oxford. Need to register to benefit from full facilities.
  • BUBL LINK: Philosophy - classified, searchable list of internet resources with brief descriptions. A nationally-funded service for the UK H.E. community, maintained by staff of Strathclyde University.
  • Intute: Arts & Humanities - an information gateway to quality assured resources on the Internet selected by a network of UK universities for academic use. Covers philosophy, religion, history and a range of arts and humanities subjects.
  • HERO subject oriented directories: Philosophy - comprehensive, searchable list of worldwide internet resources, with descriptions. A nationally-funded service for the UK H.E. community, maintained by HERO (Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the UK).
