Thanks to everyone who signed up for philosophy society membership. As the next step, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourselves? Name, favourite colour, beverage choice... Anything!

Hi everyone, I'm Danny. I just graduated with an MA in Modern Drama and Performance from University College Dublin and I'm very happy to be here at York for a year to read for a Graduate Diploma in Philosophy. I am interested in the practical and theoretical aspects of Drama and plan to train next year as a secondary level drama teacher. |

Hi! I'm Pui. I'm a 2nd year student, major in English, from Thammasat University, Thailand. Maybe I choose Philosophy as my minor subject. Hope to share thoughts and discuss with everyone
Nice to meet you all! |

Being educated in environmental technologies, being directly involved in many project works related to drinking water, wastewater, environmental pollution, having grown the hobby of reading and studying philosophy and it’s implication in saving the mother nature, being born and brought up in a corrupted society with scarcity of resources and presently being part of a western middle class society and being able to enjoy the fruits bloomed in the colonial gardens , I feel some sort of obligation to search for a breathing space composed of effluent from Lalon Shah’s ‘Shohoj manush(simple man)’, Arni Neas deep ecology, Spinoza’s romantic God, Ali Sariati’s futuristic Islam, Sartre’s post mortem on essence and existence and Stephen Hawkins black holes and white holes, system theory and holism. |

Hello all - I'm James, second year philosopher and society communications entity. I have not yet decided what my main interests are in the subject, as I've not been doing it for long, although first-years should look forward to Philosophy of Mind. Just generally saying hello to y'all: above all bumping this thread.
So yes:
Favourite colour: Black Beverage choice: Mead (a sweet wine distilled from honey, available only in York it seems). As well as that, I'm interested in writing, film production and generally getting too emotional about things. |

Guess I might as well introduce myself here too... I'm Greg, despite my screen name. Should we meet in the outworld, you can recognize me by the excessive quantities of ginger hair under which I reside, and my sour stare, which I assure you is a complete facade.
As for philosophy, I'm actually not much of a big reader for a philosopher, so don't be surprised if I have no idea what you're talking about when you reference people. I do love critical discussion though, about pretty much anything no matter how trivial or absurd, so bring it on. |

Hello, I realised I never did this so I thought I'd follow your example and introduce myself properly. I'm Rachel, I'm a second year philosophy student too, and I'm also secretary this year for the society (woop woop!) We are all really looking forward to meeting the new members...
Anyway, about me:
Philosophy wise I love a good ethical dilemma but I've enjoyed pretty much everything on the course so far.
Favourite colour - purple
You can usually find me reading books or drinking cocktails but not necessarily at the same time!
See you all soon :-D |

Everyone appears to have done this but me

Hey, I'm Lucy, I'm a first year History student - I'm just a bit of a philosophy geek as well so thought I might as well join.
As to anything else, ask away as I'm sure I've left a considerable amount out...

I'm Jess, 2nd year philosophy student, and for some reason not actually a member of PhilSoc yet this year. I joined last year, but I missed the Freshers' Fair this time, so didn't get a chance to sign up. Will have to correct that though!
I'm Greg's housemate and recognisable by . . . well, I'm not very recognisable at all.
Favourite colour? Blue. And I spend most of my time fixing my computer, which has a tendency to kill hard drives. The rest is spent proving the stereotype that arts students are lazy. Which is a pretty worthy cause, I think. |
